That aside, the performance is good and the plot lines in all the novels definitely proves that truth is stranger than fiction. Buckle up and expect twists, turns and awful deeds. I did a lot of referring to Wikipedia. Nearly all the characters in the books are real and so to get a Wiki-thumbnail portrait is very helpful.

Has a feeling of authenticity. I will be listening to the next one of the series for sure. I first read this series in my teens and enjoyed it tremendously. Excellent historical adventure, well written and well told. Very enjoyable. Really enjoyed this book the narration was very good and I look forward to the next in the series. What disappointed you about The Iron King? I have been a Audible customer for a number of years and to be fair this is the first book that I have purchased that I have not liked. I only managed to get 40 minutes into the book before the narration was irritating me so much that I had to turn it off and start on another book instead.
Peter Joyce's reading of the book is stilted with overly long pauses of up to a second in places that should be flowing. Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not? I never felt compelled to write a review before but Peter Joyce's narration of this books is so awful that I think it needs to be highlighted. I simply could not enjoy the book at all due to his ponderous and pretentious narration.
What did you like best about this story? The story itself could have been quite entertaining, but the narration was far too distracting in it's awful pompousness for me to really enjoy the story at all. Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Peter Joyce? Anybody at all would be better than he is!
Take your pick! This is one of the wonderful books that I would never have found but for audible. George R. Dynastic rivalry, deceit and betrayal and excellent descriptions of the way in which power can be used and abused. I struggled with the strange accent more suitable for a documentary of Starkey style , an appalling pronunciation of French names and places the accent should be on the second syllable not the first.

A passionate Anglophile, he was a great expert on all things English, including its medieval history, which provides great inspiration for the series.

The first novel in Simon Scarrow's bestselling Roman series. If adjusting to the rigours of military life isn't difficult enough for the bookish young man, he also has to contend with the disgust of his colleagues when, because of his imperial connections, he is appointed a rank above them.
The Iron King
Prince of Thorns is the first volume in a powerful new epic fantasy trilogy, original, absorbing and challenging. Before the thorns taught me their sharp lessons and bled weakness from me I had but one brother, and I loved him well. But those days are gone and what is left of them lies in my mother's tomb. Now I have many brothers, quick with knife and sword, and as evil as you please. We ride this broken empire and loot its corpse.
